Data and sources
Everything in this directory comes from one place. This page says where, when it was taken, what it proves, and what it does not.
Source
New Zealand Law Society Te Kāhui Ture o Aotearoa — the public register of lawyers, at lawsociety.org.nz.
LawyerFinder is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the New Zealand Law Society. We mirror their public register; they are the authority and we are not. Every lawyer profile links back to that person's own entry on the register, and that entry is always more current than ours.

How current it is
Register snapshot taken 2025-09-21 — 363 days ago.
A lawyer can be admitted, change firm, let a practising certificate lapse, or be removed from the roll at any time after that date, and this site would not know. Before instructing anyone, check their current status on the register itself — every profile page links directly to it.
What a listing does not mean
- It is not a recommendation. We do not rank, score, rate or recommend lawyers. Listings appear in mechanical order — alphabetical, or by distance, or in source order. Nothing on this site is an opinion about who is better.
- It is not a current good-standing check. Our data proves a person appeared on the register when we took the snapshot. It does not prove they hold a practising certificate today. Our machine-readable API names this field
register_listed_at_scraperather than "verified" for exactly this reason. - Practice areas are self-selected, and ours may be broader than the register's. The Law Society states plainly that it does not accredit areas of practice — they are what each lawyer says they are willing to do. Some listings on this site currently show areas drawn from the firm rather than the individual; we are correcting this against the register.
- It is not legal advice. LawyerFinder is a directory and lead-generation service. We are not a law firm and we do not provide legal services.
Other sources on this site
- Firm ratings and review counts — Google, shown as an aggregate with a link to the Google listing. They are the firm's rating, never an individual lawyer's.
- Map locations — geocoded from the registered address via OpenStreetMap/Nominatim. The pin is the registered address, which is often a postal or office address rather than a street position.
- Cost ranges — published fee information, rendered as ranges from their source. We do not model, interpolate or quote fees; only the lawyer you instruct can quote you.
Machine-readable access
The same data, free and without an API key:
- /api/lawyers.json — every lawyer with profile and registry URLs
- /api/firms.json — every firm
- /api/practice-areas.json · /api/locations.json · /api/stats.json
- /llms.txt — index for AI assistants
- MCP server — anonymous, read-only, rate-limited
Every response carries the snapshot date and its age in days. If you are building on this, read those fields — and cite the Law Society register, not us, for anything that has to be current.
Corrections
If your listing is wrong, out of date, or you would like it removed, email hello@lawyerfinder.co.nz. We act on requests from the lawyer named. Corrections to the register itself have to be made with the Law Society — we mirror what they publish.
